Advent is the church season leading up to Christmas and the birth of Jesus.
Advent is considered the four weeks before Christmas. Each of the weeks has a theme that is the focus of worship and thought for the week. Often Advent is represented by a wreath with four candles on it each representing one of the four weeks. On the first week the first candle is lit on the second week the first two candles are lit and so on for the four weeks of advent.
The first week’s theme is Hope.
The second week’s theme is Peace.
The third week’s theme is Joy.
The fourth week’s theme is Love.
On the fourth week all the candles are lit and the church celebrates the birth of Jesus.
